| Our profession, in the state of Tennessee, is expanding due to past efforts of association presidents, officers, and councils. To those fellow dental hygienists, I say, “Thank You!” The Tennessee Dental Hygienists’ Association is working tirelessly to continue our legislative efforts to increase our scope of practice and inform hygienists and the dental community about the availability of Written Protocol; our chance to work in skilled care facilities, nursing homes, non-profit clinics and public health programs. As dental hygiene professionals, we are not only clinicians, but educators, researchers, mentors, and therapists. With these roles and expertise in mind, why are we not self-regulated? Why can we not have limited prescriptive ability? Why can we not work in collaboration with pediatricians and nurses to expand access to care in other settings? Think about where you would like to see our profession in the future. TDHA is the only professional organization representing the interests of dental hygienists in our state! We stay on top of the issues facing you and are constantly working on your behalf! I look forward to hearing from you about any suggestions, questions, or concerns you may have. In traveling to districts and dental hygiene schools in our beautiful state, I hope to broaden everyone’s knowledge of the benefits of ADHA membership, increase dialogue between districts and our organization, and aid in enhancing our profession by inspiring future leaders. Helen Keller stated, “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.” I would like to add to that professional membership, lifelong learning and commitment! Moving forward together, Whitney |
