Welcome from Lynn Russell

As I continue my journey with the TNDHA, I am excited to serve as your President.  I want to thank the association for allowing me to serve as President and be a part of a professional organization that not only gives knowledge back but allows friendships to be created within the profession.   I am following in the footsteps of some great leaders!

By this letter, I’d like to introduce myself and briefly share what we on the board are working on and what you can expect to see in the future.  First, a little bit about me and why I’m excited to be part of TNDHA in my new role.  I am a dental hygiene educator (UTHSC) and have been an RDH since 1975.  I live in Memphis with my dogs, Walter and Willow.

I am simultaneously inspired and daunted by the task of leading the Tennessee RDH community and I ask for your patience and good humor as I find my footing.  I’m inspired because I believe our community plays a unique role in bringing together the multiple strands of professionals and leaders interested in and devoted to helping this profession develop, grow, and move toward greater levels of effectiveness.  The breadth of all that constitutes dental hygiene makes our work dynamic and truly requires a “lifelong learner” mindset.  I believe that TNDHA can and should play a key role in helping us stay connected to others in our field and to the always evolving and emerging ideas.

Both ADHA and TNDHA are continuing to grow and move in a fast forward motion.  My vision for our organization is to continue to educate RDH’s in our state on the opportunities our profession has to offer for personal growth as well as professional development.  As a dental hygiene educator, I feel my experience of lifelong learning will help open the eyes of all RDH’s in the state of Tennessee.

It is a very exciting time to be in a leadership role with TNDHA.  Ideas imagined years ago have gained momentum, and there has been growth in every area of the organization: educational programs, continuing education, legislatively, and most importantly the benefits to members.  I believe that we have the vision of what we are capable of becoming as a profession and my goal is to keep us loyal to that vision. Thank you for your part in our vision for dental hygienists in the great state of Tennessee, and I can’t wait to see what we will achieve together.

Always remember:  You’re BRAVER than you believe, STRONGER than you seem, and SMARTER than you think.
