Welcome from the 2016-2017 TDHA President, Mike Tullos
This year Tennessee joins a handful of states, less than 10 to be exact, that can practice teledentistry. Here in our state, through our collective volunteer efforts, we are not only making positive change happen but incorporating emerging technologies into the delivery of oral health care services. Now that is something to be proud of! We are no longer just a progressive state in the South but, now one in the nation! The previous leaders of the Tennessee Dental Hygienists’ Association have helped pave the way for us to make changes to our scope of practice today. To everyone that has helped move us forward, I would like to say Thank You! We have looked past our operatories to see how we can improve access to care. Where do you see our profession going in the future? Self Regulation? Owning our own practice? SRP in a general setting? We are here to help make your voice heard. We are stronger in larger numbers and that is why it is very important to be a member of our professional association ADHA. TNDHA is the only organization in our state that has the interest of dental hygienist at heart. With this being said, do not be stagnant; in turn be Openly Willing to Learn(OWL). I was told by a wise professor in dental hygiene school that being a dental professional requires a lifelong pursuit of learning. I have practiced by this model since then and plan to never stop learning! So I challenge you to be an OWL.
